Netanyahu says his directive to the IDF and Mossad is to topple Iran's regime

At the officers' graduation at Bahad 1 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Netanyahu said Iran is again trying to build nuclear weapons and that overthrowing the regime is the only lasting fix. His office posted the words in English at 11:20 AM ET. Defense Minister Katz warned that “Iran will burn” if it attacks Israel.

ConfirmedThe remarks are on the record: the Prime Minister's Office posted the text on @IsraeliPM, and The Times of Israel and Ynet reported the ceremony. Netanyahu's claim that Iran has resumed weapons work, and Katz's claim of identified attack plots aimed at the Oct. 27 vote, are their own statements, not verified facts.

In the text posted by his office, Netanyahu said Iran's regime “has still not learned its lesson” and is “attempting once again to develop the bombs of death.” He said there is only one way to remove the threat for good, overthrowing the regime, and called that “my directive to the IDF, the Mossad, and the security branches.”

The post names Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's leader, calling him “the tyrant du jour.” His role and whereabouts remain unconfirmed by any primary source we have checked.

Defense Minister Israel Katz, at the same ceremony, said Israel has seen attempts by Iran and its proxies to carry out attacks meant to sway next week's election, and that “if Iran attacks Israel, Iran will burn” (Times of Israel). The Attorney General barred a live broadcast of the speech over election-propaganda concerns (Ynet).

Alma: satellite study counts 366 buildings destroyed in Beirut's Dahieh across two Israeli campaigns

A new Alma Center study of Airbus satellite imagery over 25 sq km of Beirut's southern suburbs counts at least 304 buildings destroyed in the 62 days of the 2024 campaign and 62 more Hezbollah sites in the 47 days of the 2026 campaign. Alma says Hezbollah sites sat from under a meter to a few dozen meters from schools, hospitals and mosques, and reads the smaller 2026 number as a sign Hezbollah struggled to rebuild there and has been moving assets to other parts of Beirut and Lebanon.

Reported / UnverifiedAlma's own geospatial analysis and assessment; the counts and its reading of them were not independently checked, and no Hezbollah or Lebanese government response was found.
Alma Research and Education Center, @Israel_Alma_org

Alma: senior IRGC recruiter Hossein Yekta visited Lebanon to rally Hezbollah's base

The Alma Center says Hossein Yekta, an IRGC commander tied to recruitment and indoctrination, came to Lebanon in early October with a delegation for families of dead Hezbollah fighters, reportedly met senior Hezbollah figures, and filmed himself washing in the Litani River as a “prelude to prayer in Jerusalem.” Alma says this tests Beirut's March pledge to stop IRGC activity on its soil.

Reported / UnverifiedAlma's research report, built on media reports and a video; the meetings are “reported,” and no Lebanese or Iranian official statement was checked.
Alma Research and Education Center, @Israel_Alma_org

Alma: Hezbollah's health minister is backing the reopening of a Hezbollah-run clinic

Alma says Lebanon's Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine, Hezbollah's man in the cabinet, is sponsoring the reopening of a medical center run by Hezbollah's Islamic Health Organization. Alma's view is that this rebuilds Hezbollah's civilian network, and its hold on people, with the government's stamp on it.

Reported / UnverifiedThe reopening is Alma's report; the reading of it as a “state within a state” is Alma's analysis. No Lebanese ministry statement was checked.
Alma Research and Education Center, @Israel_Alma_org

Alma: some Shiites in Amal-leaning villages may be starting to push Hezbollah out of their neighborhoods

In a special report by Tal Beeri, Alma lists local clashes since September in southern Lebanese villages that lean toward Nabih Berri's Amal movement, including a reported exchange of fire in Arab Salim on Sept. 6 over Hezbollah moving fighters and weapons between homes, and residents in al-Qseibeh getting a Hezbollah container moved. It also cites reports of a widening gap between Berri and Hezbollah over Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's government. Alma's view is that fear of another war reaching Nabatieh and north of the Litani may be shifting the balance of fear, but it says this is not a Shiite revolt and Hezbollah's own base is not breaking away.

Reported / UnverifiedAlma's analysis and assessment. Several of the village incidents and the Berri–Hezbollah reports are, by Alma's own account, not fully verified.
Alma Research and Education Center, @Israel_Alma_org

Alma: Hezbollah owned up to the seized explosives truck and wants it back

Alma says Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah confirmed on Oct. 15 that the explosives-laden vehicle seized Oct. 5 at the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint was Hezbollah's, said the cargo was meant for Israeli forces in south Lebanon, and demanded it back along with the two men held. Alma notes an Al-Akhbar report that prosecutors ordered the arrest of Hezbollah liaison chief Hussein Abdullah and aide Ali Ayoub; Hezbollah and judicial sources quoted by MTV deny it, and Alma says it cannot verify it.

Reported / UnverifiedAlma's account and analysis. Hezbollah's ownership claim is from its own MP. The arrest-order report is unverified and has been denied by judicial sources and Hezbollah.

Tel Hai College becomes Kiryat Shmona–Tel Hai University

Netanyahu went to Kiryat Shmona with ministers Yoav Kisch and Ze'ev Elkin to open the academic year and mark the college's upgrade to a university, backed by NIS 694 million. The office ties it to a roughly NIS 6.8 billion northern program that includes 1,800 mobile bomb shelters and 500 renovated public shelters.

ConfirmedThe visit and figures come from the Prime Minister's Office post with photos; the figures are the government's own and were not independently checked.

Hegseth meets Netanyahu at a southern Israel air base; Iran was on the table

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made an unannounced stop in Israel on Monday, Oct. 19, and met Netanyahu at Ovda Air Base in the Negev, where U.S. tankers and fighters are based. Netanyahu's spokesman says they discussed regional threats, defensively and offensively. Reports that the talks centered on renewed strikes on Iran rest on unnamed sources.

ConfirmedThe meeting and its place are confirmed on the record by Netanyahu's spokesman Doron Spielman (to Reuters, via Times of Israel). Reports that the talks focused on resuming large-scale strikes on Iran come from unnamed sources (Axios, CNN via The National) and are not confirmed; the Pentagon has not commented on Hegseth's movements.

Haaretz: White House leaning toward a preemptive strike on Iran after Hegseth briefing

Haaretz reported Wednesday afternoon, citing sources in the U.S. administration, that the White House appears to have shifted in recent hours toward favoring a preemptive strike on Iran. The report says the shift followed President Trump's review of intelligence that Defense Secretary Hegseth brought back from his meeting with Netanyahu. No decision has been announced.

Reported / UnverifiedReported / Unverified: this rests on unnamed U.S. administration sources quoted by one outlet (Haaretz), relayed here via Iran International and Newsquawk; we could not open the Haaretz original. The White House and Pentagon have not commented on the record.

New York Times: U.S. and Israel have drawn up plans for renewed strikes on Iran after the U.S. midterms

The New York Times reported at 6:41 PM ET Wednesday, citing U.S. officials and others briefed on the deliberations, that the U.S. and Israeli militaries have specific plans for a short but intensive round of strikes on Iran after the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Likely targets named in the report are energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities and missile and drone arsenals, and the two militaries have stepped up exercises over Iraq. The Times says it is far from certain President Trump will approve, since he has repeatedly vetoed a return to major combat this year.

Reported / UnverifiedReported / Unverified: the plans rest on unnamed U.S. officials and people briefed, quoted by The New York Times and relayed by Ynet and Anadolu Agency. A White House official told the Times the administration does not comment on military plans “that may or may not exist.” Israel's government has not commented on the record.

Netanyahu doubles down on new doctrine: strike first, and act alone on Iran if needed

A day after publishing Israel's updated security doctrine, which puts preemptive strikes ahead of containment and says Israel will act alone on Iran if it must, Netanyahu told an Air Force base on Monday that Israel is ready to strike its enemies “the moment it is required.” Israel votes Oct. 27.

ConfirmedThat the doctrine was issued, what it says, and Monday's Air Force base remarks are confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office posts and video, with the doctrine also reported by Israel National News and Israel Hayom. Netanyahu's claims, such as '90% of the job is done', that Iran's regime will fall, and that enemies will suffer harsher blows, are his own statements, not verified facts.

IDF says three more Hamas operatives killed over the weekend, including a cell commander

Early Monday the IDF said weekend strikes killed three Hamas members: Majed Sabbag, whom it called a cell commander, and Abdullah Jaber, who it says made weapons, both hit in Gaza City's Tuffah area on Saturday, and Amer Khourani, of an engineering battalion, in Jabalia. It said they were advancing attacks “in systematic violation of the ceasefire.” On Saturday it had announced four other Hamas members killed from Thursday to Saturday.

Reported / UnverifiedIDF statements; the names come from the IDF's Hebrew announcement as reported by The Times of Israel. Identities and roles have not been independently verified, and Hamas had not commented as of this edition.

U.S. tells Americans across the Middle East to stay on heightened alert as Houthi–Saudi fighting continues

Overnight the State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh issued a security alert telling Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance and plan for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions. It cites Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, warns that Iran and groups it backs may target U.S. interests worldwide, and says the fighting could escalate quickly. On Monday, Haaretz reported that a Houthi attack on a government military camp in southern Yemen killed 53 people, citing local authorities, and that Houthi attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities have killed 19.

ConfirmedThe alert is posted directly by @TravelGov and @USAinKSA and is travel guidance. The Yemen death tolls are figures from local authorities reported by Haaretz, which we could not independently verify.

Iran's new defense minister warns of “enormous damage” if U.S. attacks resume

Iran's parliament confirmed Mehrdad Akhlaghi as defense minister on Sunday, 237 votes of 277 cast, according to the government website cited by AFP. Right after the vote he told reporters the U.S. would “most likely not dare to attack,” but that if it did, “they themselves and the region will suffer enormous damage.” He replaces Aziz Nasirzadeh, killed in the Feb. 28 U.S.-Israeli strike on a leadership compound. Akhlaghi has led Iran's Defence Industries Organisation since 2013 and was sanctioned by the UN in 2007.

ConfirmedThe vote and his remarks are on the record, reported by AFP from Iranian state TV and the government website. The threat is Iran's own statement.

Foreign Ministry calls NYC Comptroller Brad Lander's olive-harvest visit a staged provocation

Israel's Foreign Ministry said New York City Comptroller Brad Lander entered a restricted security area in the West Bank without coordination, after his team had been told in advance that coordination was required. It called the visit “a calculated political provocation” and said he “came looking for a confrontation.”

ConfirmedThe ministry's statement is on the record on @IsraelMFA. Its account of what happened on the ground is one side's version; we have not checked Lander's account or any video of the incident.

Israel and Lebanon finish a first day of talks at CENTCOM in Tampa; second day Wednesday

Israeli and Lebanese military delegations met for about six hours on Tuesday at U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, under U.S. mediation, to work on the June framework deal, Hezbollah disarmament and Israeli pullback from two “pilot areas” in south Lebanon. No result was announced. Lebanon wants Israeli strikes to stop; Netanyahu says the Lebanese army must clear Hezbollah from the pilot zones or Israel will.

Reported / UnverifiedThat the meeting took place is confirmed to The Jerusalem Post by two IDF sources and to Anadolu by diplomatic sources; no joint statement or U.S. State Department readout had been issued. As of 11:53 AM ET Wednesday, no readout of the second day had been found.

Israel accepted as a partner of the Pacific Islands Forum

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar says the Forum's secretary general, Baron Divavesi Waqa, told him Israel has been accepted as a Forum Partner, decided at the leaders' meeting in Palau. Sa'ar ties it to his earlier visit to Fiji and calls it “another diplomatic achievement.” Partner status is a cooperation role, not membership.

ConfirmedAnnounced on the record by Israel's foreign minister on his own account. We did not find a Forum statement in this pull; the decision is attributed to the secretary general via Sa'ar.

Police arrest 10 Israeli suspects over weekend settler attacks, including the assault on European diplomats

Israel Police said early Monday that 10 Israeli suspects were detained at dawn at several places in the central West Bank, in a joint operation with the Shin Bet, on suspicion of taking part in the weekend settler attacks on Palestinians and foreign diplomats. Police said evidence linking them to the attacks was found and several vehicles were seized; the first count was eight. Masked men attacked Belgian, French and Polish diplomats and a French mayor in Taybeh on Saturday, and the EU, France and Secretary of State Rubio pressed Israel to act. No charges have been announced.

ConfirmedThe arrests come from Israel Police statements carried by The Times of Israel; the number rose from 8 to 10 during the morning. Who was arrested and for which attack has not been made public, and no one has been charged. That the delegation was attacked is documented by video, the Belgian and Polish governments, the IDF and several news organizations. The EU, French and Rubio statements are on the record. The PMO had urged caution before assigning blame.

Netanyahu: the UAE may carry out building work inside a designated Gaza zone

Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel has let the United Arab Emirates operate in a “bubble” next to the Israeli-controlled part of the Gaza Strip and do infrastructure work there, even though Hamas has not been disarmed, Haaretz reported. Details of the area and the work were not given in the part of the report we could read.

Reported / UnverifiedNetanyahu's remarks as reported by Haaretz (Jonathan Lis, Liza Rozovsky). The UAE had not publicly confirmed the arrangement as of this edition.
Iran

Araghchi: Hormuz could reopen in six days if Washington accepts Iran's terms

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz could reopen within six days if the U.S. accepts Iran's conditions, with talks resuming on the seventh day. The conditions include lifting the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, removing oil sanctions and ending hostilities on regional fronts. He said Tehran is reviewing Washington's comments on its proposal.

Reported / UnverifiedAraghchi's remarks as reported by the Hindustan Times; Washington had not publicly responded as of this edition.
